Rope Creation

My son made this from rope in the same manner his maternal grandfather did as a British merchant marine
sailor.  He never really knew his grandfather and only saw a few of his rope creations but, unbeknownst to me, he had taken up the same craft and presented this to us.

1911 Colt 45

This is a picture of a 45 automatic pistol that my father brought back from the battlefields of Europe in 1945.
It was a German officer's sidearm.  By its serial number I know that it was made in Sweden in 1927 under license from Colt.  The Germans took over the Swedish manufacturing plant during the war and made the same pistol for their officers although it appears that this one must have been bought for the German army before the war.  It is labelled  "11.25 m/m aut. pistol M/1914".   It is an industrial age weapon, entirely made of steel with no electronics, and no plastics.  Only the grip on the handle is not steel, it looks like it is wood, probably black walnut.  It is a very simple assembly of mechanical pieces; springs, slides, levers, combined with gunpowder filled cartridges.
